JAMES HUDSON
British jazz vocalist, James Hudson is a rising star who epitomises the 21st century crooner. James has taken great inspiration from the likes of Frank Sinatra, Mel Torme, Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole and Sarah Vaughan. Much of his repertoire is inspired by these artists and the timeless music of The Great American Songbook, with his own take of some more modern songs thrown in. WEST SIDE JAZZ ORCHESTRA
This debut performance of the West Side Jazz Orchestra will feature some of the UK’s top session musicians from the BBC Big Band, Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra and Syd Lawrence Orchestra - playing the big band repertoire of: Bob Florence, Sammy Nestico, Thad Jones, Gordon Goodwin, Count Basie and Tom Kubis. ANTHONY KERR AND PETER LONG QUINTET
Join us for an evening celebrating the sparkling small-band music of the King of Swing, Benny Goodman. Clarinettist Peter Long leads an all-star quartet with vibraphonist Anthony Kerr, pianist Colin Good, bassist Joe Pettitt and drummer Dave Tandy. Together they recreate the joyful spirit of Goodman’s famous groups of the 1930s and 40s, where dazzling musicianship met irresistible swing. The programme features classics including Flying Home, Air Mail Special, A Smooth One and Seven Come Eleven. Expect driving rhythm, sparkling improvisation and the relaxed elegance that made these small bands legendary. A perfect night for jazz lovers and anyone who enjoys music that really swings. SIMON BATES TRIO
Back by popular demand! Simon Bates Trio make a welcome return to West Side Jazz. Simon Bates holds the esteemed position of Saxophone Professor for the Royal Marines and British Army, where his reputation is defined by his remarkable versatility and instrumental mastery. His exceptional playing can be heard in a plethora of mediums, including advertisements, film scores, television and radio shows, theme tunes, and popular recordings. Throughout his career, Simon has collaborated with a multitude of notable artists spanning various genres. From Jamie Cullum to Kylie Minogue, Elvis Costello to Dizzee Rascal, Lulu to Chaka Khan, Seal to Alfie Boe, John Dankworth to Cleo Laine, Steve Gadd to The London Concert Orchestra, and the Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band—his musical partnerships have been diverse and extensive. Additionally, Simon has served as the musical director for esteemed vocalists such as Rick Astley, Alexander Armstrong, and Bette Midler, showcasing his leadership skills. Notably, he has also conducted performances with the BBC Singers and the Orchestra of the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields. If we raise the full amount, that covers the purchase of the Yamaha U3 H piano, 2 x microphones and 2 x microphone stands/clamps.
